August 22, 2026GOLAGHAT, AUGUST 12, 2026 – The Central Library of Golaghat Purbanchalik College today celebrated National Librarian’s Day with profound academic fervor, marking the 134th birth anniversary of the father of library science in India, Dr. S.R. Ranganathan.The commemorative event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Dr. Haren Hazarika, Principal, Golaghat Purbanchalik College, who was assisted by the Vice Principal, Dr. Malamoni Goswami. The subsequent institutional meeting was presided over by Principal Dr. Hazarika.The entire programme was meticulously planned and managed by Assistant Librarian Jagot Chandra Bora. Initiating the formal proceedings, Tridib Lochan Barooah, Convenor of the Library Committee, delivered the welcome address and articulated the core objectives of the celebration.Underscoring the academic significance of the day, Pranjal Saikia, Assistant Professor, Department of History and Coordinator of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), delivered a comprehensive lecture highlighting the pivotal role of librarians and modern information systems in contemporary education. In a commendable gesture to enrich the institutional repository, the ‘Teacher’s Unit of the College ‘ donated a collection of books to the Central Library during the event.Reiterating the value of foundational academic habits, Rinku Moni Gogoi, Assistant Professor from the Department of Assamese addressed the gathering, delivering an insightful speech on the enduring importance of developing a robust reading habit among students.The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large gathering of faculty members, office staff, and students. The day’s proceedings successfully concluded with a valedictory address and closing remarks from the Chair, Principal Dr. Haren Hazarika.
